Styled sets — why we pair every plant with its pot
Below is why that pairing is harder to get right than it looks, and the sets we currently have worked out.
Pot not included is the most honest line on most of our product pages — and also the most common place people get stuck. You've chosen the plant. Now you need something to put it in, and there are dozens of finishes, shapes and sizes to weigh up, with a real risk of getting the proportions wrong and having the whole thing look off once it arrives.
Styled sets exist to skip that step. Each one is a plant and pot we've already stood next to each other, in person, and decided actually work — not just matched on a spreadsheet by category.
Why pot pairing is harder than it looks
Three things have to line up at once, and it's easy to only notice one of them:
- Proportion — a pot that's too small makes a tall plant look top-heavy and unstable, even when it's perfectly sturdy. Too large, and the plant looks lost inside it.
- Finish — a glossy pot under a matte, textured trunk can look cheaper than either piece looks alone. Matte-on-matte or a deliberate contrast in texture reads as considered; a clash in sheen usually doesn't.
- Colour undertone — warm terracotta against cool grey concrete, or vice versa, is a small mismatch that's surprisingly visible once the piece is sitting in a room rather than on a product photo.
None of this is obvious from two separate product photos shot on their own. It's the kind of thing you only really catch once the plant and pot are next to each other — which is exactly the problem a styled set solves before it reaches you.
The plant is the focal point. The pots in our styled sets — Maren, Solène, Ravello, our Provence urn — are all deliberately understated finishes so they support the plant instead of competing with it.
"White pot" and "olive tree" isn't a pairing — it's a category match. The actual test is standing the two pieces side by side and deciding whether they'd hold up in a photograph.

Who a styled set actually suits
If you already know exactly which pot you want — maybe it needs to match existing homewares, or you've got a specific finish in mind — buy the plant on its own and choose your own pot from our pots and vases range. That's a perfectly good approach, and plenty of people know precisely what they're after.
A styled set is for the more common situation: you know the plant you want, you don't have strong feelings about the pot, and you'd rather not spend twenty minutes second-guessing whether a particular white ceramic finish will look right under a black ficus. We've already made that call, in person, with both pieces in front of us.
Frequently asked questions
Can I swap the pot in a styled set for a different one?
The bundle pricing applies to the pairing as listed. If you'd prefer a different pot, buying the plant and pot separately from their individual collections gives you full control over the combination.
Do styled sets ship as one delivery?
Yes — the plant and pot ship together as a single order, on the same delivery timeline as our standard faux trees.
Are styled sets only for olive trees?
Not exclusively — our Bird of Paradise + Ravello set pairs a very different leaf shape and scale, and we're adding further sets across other plant types over time.
